These People Need a Wheelchair!
Several days ago, I shared an interesting article on special wheelchairs for disabled pet dogs and some of my thoughts. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23792467/ ) Again, I love dogs and I think that they deserve the treatment for their unconditional love to human beings. Meanwhile, I also believe that disabled people should at least have the same care…. After that, I received kind responses from some friends to share with me their thoughts, comments. I feel very appreciated and enjoy reading your ideas and opinions. Some of you asked about how many wheelchaires needed here and how to help the situation if possibld… I am really moved by your love to poor disabled people here.

Frankly, it is hard to give an exact number how many are needed, but I can say that the need is “a lot”, considering the fact that there are about 82,960,000 people with various disabilities in China and about about 120,000 in Anshan alone. In the past several years, we had several mass wheelchair distribution with JAF and FWM. For some reason, the work has to be stopped recently. However, we know the need is still there and many disabled people need this help. So we are praying for restarting the work someday.

Here are some people around us badly need a wheelchair. We pray that they could get the help to make some freedom out of their physical limitation. Maybe you want give some help….

1. Li HongQi, 53 years old, with severe polio, living with a deaf daughter and schizoid wife. To suport the family, he start a stand in downtown to mend shoese for people. He needs to drive his tricycle wheelchair to his stand. Now the tricycle is too old and almost broken.
NEED: An manual tricycle wheelchair;
COST: 2,000-3,000RMB (or US$280 - 430)


2. Zhao JianPing, 7 years old, with severe cerebral palsy, from a poor family. Her dad is doing coolie to support the family and mom is taking care of her and her one year old sister at home.
NEED: A child size reclining manual wheelchair.
COST: 1500-2000RMB or US$210-280

3. Hou Qiang, 21 years old, with severe cerebral palsy, from a poor family. Her dad lost his work in the factory and is doing coolie to support the family. His mom is taking care of him at home.
NEED: An manual wheelchair;
COST: Around 1,000RMB (or US$130)

4. Gu JiaQi, 12 years old, with cerebral palsy, from a poor family. Her dad is working to support the family. His mom is unemployed. The family does not have a house and is living with her grandparents.
NEED: An manual wheelchair;
COST: Around 1,000RMB (or US$130)

5. Li Xin, 24 years old, with severe cerebral palsy, from a poor family. Her dad passed away many years ago. His mom is taking care of him at home. The family is living on the little subsidy from government.
NEED: An manual wheelchair;
COST: Around 1,000RMB (or US$130)
6. Zhao SaMu, 16 years old, with severe cerebral palsy, from a poor family. His dad is doing coolie to support the family and mom is taking care of him at home.
NEED: An manual wheelchair;
COST: Around 1,000RMB (or US$130)
7. Gao JunFeng, 13 years old, with severe epilepsy, from a poor christian family. His father is in prison and His mom is taking care of him at home, living on the litle subsidy of 400RMB from government.
NEED: An manual wheelchair;
COST: Around 1,000RMB (or US$130)
